PREPARATION FOR US UNIVERSITIES

After the publication of my articles on studying in America, I was told by a lot of interested young people who made me very happy. Since the questions received were similar, I decided to write a short article that should show the basic steps needed to apply to the US faculty. I would like to point out that my experience is related to apps at Institutions called the 'Ivy League' rank, such as Harvard, which offer a full scholarship for international students so it is possible that the application process at other faculties differs in several details.

Currently in America there are several faculties that offer full ' merit based'ie academic scholarships, in the form of so-called' need blind 'financial aid for international students. These are: Harvard, Princeton, Yale, MIT, Dartmouth, Amherst, and somewhat Middlebury College. The advantage of such faculties, except MIT's most focused on computer science and engineering, is that each offers the ability to study and focus on over 50 different areas, ranging from literature to astrophysics. More information at  www.collegeboard.org .

Below I would give you the instructions you need to follow as well as the realistic criteria to be met for application.

Unfortunately, I do not have more detailed information on applying and funding Masters and PhD programs, but the 10 general tips below will give you useful information to get started.

INITIAL PREPARATION
Most secondary school students in America are already thinking of enrolling in college in the second grade of secondary school. In BIH, this process begins when a lecturer visits you 15 days before the end of the fourth grade and in half an hour tells you about all the possible careers in the world. In America, faculty representatives are coming to hold two-hour presentations for third-grade students. To be able to take the chance at a top American college you have to start thinking about studying earlier because the process in America is much more complicated than the entrance examination here.

EXPLORE ENGLISH LANGUAGE!
One of the basic things the Americans are looking at is - is your English good to compete with Americans. If you do not seem to learn enough in high school, type a course, watch TV channels in English, practice conversation, and most importantly - read books regularly in English.

TOEFL
This is one of the first tests that international students have to undertake to dramatize the level & stage of knowledge of English. The test is pretty simple, and you can find more information on their website at www.ets.org/toefl .

SAT
This is one of the most popular words in American high schools. The test consists of three parts: math, reading and writing. During the four hours you 'demonstrate your knowledge', although this test, in my opinion, shows some of your academic quality and background, the key to success is early preparation and constant workout. Very good preparation for this test I used the Cracking the SAT book in Princeton Review, which you can order for less than $ 20 through Amazon and arrive at your address in BIH. The key to success in this test is to make at least 5 to 10 test runs before taking the official test and to track how many points get in a given time frame.

QUALIFICATION And
Average over 4.5 is implied. Realistically watching most students receive on 'Ivy League 'school had a great average. The limit of 4.5 for us in BiH is a minimum limit (although the average of over 4.7 is much better).

QUALIFICATIONS II
Extracurricular activities and achievements - This is the key to entering the top US faculties. These include: competitions, sports, practice, volunteering, student groups, international conferences, summer schools and other additional academic programs. Point here what you did and what you did not do .If you have volunteered, what results did you achieve, what results you had at competitions; which you led the student groups and what their purpose was. That's a few things you have to consider. As a high school student in Sarajevo I couldn't out of school too many times, but luckily in America before I enrolled at Harvard I had the opportunity to make up for it.

QUALIFICATION III
In the previous article, I mentioned my experiences in America before Harvard and stated that I attended St. Albans School of Public Service and Phillips Exeter Academy. Many then asked me what these programs are. Phillips Exeter Academyis a top high school in America that recruits international students and offers funding for one, two or more years. I attended a program that was like the fifth year of high school. My friend at Harvard, who from Doboj attended the third and fourth grade in a similar high school - Deerfield Academy and we both had great experiences. Of course, it takes a lot of effort and effort to adapt to the American system. The best Technics I can give you in general is make research online. The FAQ (frequently asked questions) section of each page is a great place to find answers to some general questions. Also, I suggest that you contact the program leaders who are interested in you via e-mail. Of course, I'm at your disposal for any other questions that you can not find the answer after the internet search.

ACCESS TO CONTACTS AND CONTROL MAINTENANCE
The most important feature of any international student enrolled in a faculty outside his country and receiving a scholarship is persistence. During high school, I spent hours each day exploring various educational opportunities and scholarships around the world. Today, everything becomes easier with brilliant websites when contacting people, keep in mind the importance of the first contact. E-mail addresses that you might have opened while you are using msn in elementary school will go right to the spam folder of any sender. Make a professional address (like: imeprezime@gmail.com or prvoslovoimenaprezime@gmail.com) and use it for every communication. Explore online what form e-mail should have (starting with "Dear," or "Dear Mr. ______ or Dear Ms. _______" in English, in the end, always write in the last row with "Sincerely," or "Kindly" or " Sincerely, "or" All the Best "or" Regards "in English, and in the last line, write down your first and last name, you will not believe how many people in the world that are willing & exiting to help and advise young people, situation. It's imperative to send that first e-mail. If you get the answer you must immediately thank. When writing CVs, keep in mind that standards for each country are different. After you have made contact with people who are interested in maintaining that contact.Z

ESSAYS AND SIDE LETTER
This is phase applications - it is important to say that the essay something that is crucial to whether you will be admitted to college or not. For Harvard or similar institutions, you need to write about 3 essays on issues related to your life situations and successes. Cover letter / represents the first thing the staff in the Admission Office looks at and needs to be perfect. The essay is the last part of the application process and would like to read, correct and give an opinion on any work after the above mentioned tests are submitted.

CONCLUSION
These were the basic information I wanted to share with you. During the application there are many other questions I would like to help. In the whole thinking of studying outside of BIH, it is important to be realistic in evaluating your qualifications and abilities.

With these articles I do not waver to go to America and that is the only way to glorious the future, but I offer some tips and suggestions that would serve as useful information for all those who were always asked " What do I have to do to be received at Harvard, "the fact is that a large number of world leaders have completed the world's top academy, but this does not mean that the world has failed if you miss an opportunity to enroll in a university abroad.

The main lesson from this article is that effort and perseverance accomplish goals and dreams. Every success has arisen after a tenth failure. Failure should be seen as one lesson, but one that you will deeply analyze and learn much from it.
